Understand how culture alters perception and creates differences

You’ll have come across the person who just doesn’t understand what you are trying to tell them.  It might be a language problem or it might be they just “don’t get” what you are saying.

Did your customer really not understand, or does he just have a different concept of time?Is your agent partner really rude and difficult, or does he just have a much more direct way of speaking? If not understood cultural differences can cause delays and problems.

Working in the international moving industry gives plenty of opportunity to work with people from different cultures.  The ability to communicate effectively and easily build a rapport across different cultures are skills to be highly valued.

Intercultural awareness helps people become more conscious about their own culture, and more sensitive and empathic towards cultural differences.

Everyone sees situations differently.  The way you interpret a situation will not necessary be the same way others do.  We are not consciously aware of our culture, we consider the way we do things “normal” and don’t really notice how we behave until we experience a different culture.

In your company there are probably good examples of cultural differences.  Your sales, accounting, operations departments probably have very different cultures, and the occasional difficulties in empathy and communicating with each other.  By make people more aware of the differences and open to new ideas you get:
